Comparative Study on the Field- and Lab-Based Soil-Water Characteristic Curves for Expansive Soils

چکیده
Expansive soils are problematic and viewed as a potential hazard for buildings structures due to swell shrink phenomena. The damaging effect of these is strongly correlated with the soil-water characteristics expansive present in shallow depth. seasonal wetting-drying cycle vital fluctuating moisture content surficial soils. As such, remain unsaturated most time high absorption capacity. Therefore, it crucial assess them soil, characteristic curve (SWCC) an essential tool measuring soils’ mechanical hydraulic properties. main objective this study was establish both field- lab-based SWCCs compare determining possible difference between them. For purpose, eight sites were selected sampling situ testing. These include three locations Karak, Kohat, two D.I areas. Based on experimental results, Karak’s soil indicated suction value 705 kPa, while D. I Khan’s showed least equal 595 kPa. comparison field lab presented close agreement matric values beyond air entry (AEVs), particularly residual zones. It also concluded that soils, comparable AEVs. established curves can be successfully utilized local framework

15 صفحه اولStatistical Assessment of Models for Determination of Soil – Water Characteristic Curves of Sand Soils
Characterization of the engineering behavior of unsaturated soil is dependent on the soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC), a graphical representation of the relationship between water content or degree of saturation and soil suction. A reasonable description of the SWCC is thus important for the accurate prediction of unsaturated soil parameters. The measurement procedures for determining the...
متن کاملthe comparative impact of prompts and recasts in processing instruction versus meaningful output-based instruction on efl learners’ writing accuracy
the purpose of the present study was to see which one of the two instruction-processing instruction (pi) and meaningful output based instruction (mobi) accompanied with prompt and recast- is more effective on efl learners’ writing accuracy. in order to homogenize the participants in term of language proficiency a preliminary english test (pet) was administrated between 74 intermediate students ...
Influence of Soil-industrial Effluents Interaction on Subgrade Strength of an Expansive Soil-a Comparative Study
The rapid growth in population and industrialization cause generation of large quantities of effluents. The bulk effluents generated from industrial activities are discharged either treated or untreated over the soil leading to changes in soil properties causing improvement or degradation of engineering behaviour of soil. If there is an improvement in engineering behaviour of soil, there is a v...
متن کاملsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
